Northern Railways in India Test UV-C Robots to Disinfect Coaches

The transport industry, including airline, train and coach companies, are continually looking at ways to keep passengers and their staff safe in light of the Covid-19 pandemic. So we read with interest that the Delhi Division of Indian Railways has started using UV-C robots to disinfect coaches.

According to a statement made by the Ministry of Railways, “To prevent the spread of the pandemic, the northern railways have employed robots that have UV-C light for 100% disinfection of the compartments area in coaches. A precautionary measure to make travel by train safer during the Pandemic.

“According to the Railway administration, the robot can be very easily used through remote control, to disinfect the train automatically. This new method of disinfecting the train coaches cleans every gap, even ones which were previously not easy to clean, with other methods.” Read full article here.

Virus Control on Public Transport

Millions of people around the world rely of public transportation to get to work or for essential services.

When you consider how many people use public transport on a daily basis and are in close quarters for an extended period of time, there is a strong likelihood that bacteria is being transmitted and how these environments can cause a virus to spread.

On a positive note, companies like Evolve Raybotix have developed technology for the efficient and effective disinfection of all types of transport vehicles.

Evolve Raybotix

Evolve Raybotix is a UK-based company which has developed a range of UV-C Disinfection robots supported by ozone which tick all of the boxes when it comes to the requirements of the transport industry as follow

  • Infection control: our robots, which are now classified as a medical device, destroy microorganisms’ DNA structures, quickly and safely eradicating 99.9% of harmful bacteria and viruses.

  • Visibility & frequency of cleaning: following a disinfection by our robots, we provide signs to indicate that spaces have been disinfected and deeply sanitised. When it comes to frequency, our robots can be programmed to clean as frequently as required with different models offering various levels of coverage:

  • Increased sustainability: UV-C disinfection robots sanitise all spaces in an environmentally friendly and chemical-free way by deconstructing ozone back into oxygen at the end of the disinfection cycle rendering disinfected spaces and leaving no harmful residues.

Evolve Raybotix Robot Models

What’s more, the Evolve Raybotix robots are not reliant on people to operate them. These robots can programmed manually or remotely to schedule a disinfection of an airplane cabin or train coach for example, to allow for a cleaning process to suit your operational needs, either during working or non-working hours.

Our three models include:

  • The NEO UV-C disinfection robot is able to clean 25m2 in as little as 15 minutes.

  • The EOS UV-C disinfection robot can sanitise an area of 80m2 in as little as eight minutes.

  • The mobile SOL UV-C disinfection robot is able to clean 100m2 in as little as seven minutes.

The NEO and SOL models also come with the Air module which has the ability to sanitise environments without having to vacate the space. Read more here.
