The Challenges Facing Retailers When Shops Re-open
The message from Welsh Government is that retail shops need to put in place plans now to get ready to re-open to the public in April 2021. These plans should ensure the safety of both employees while also trying to promote ‘business as usual’.
Retailers should also be thinking about the impact any changes will have on the customer and the customer relationship. You will need to re-build trust in your brand, products and services and instil a new confidence that your spaces (including front of house, changing rooms and storage/warehouse areas) are fully sanitised, disinfected and virus free.
Smart-thinking retailers are already looking at the most efficient, effective and value-for-money ways of re-building confidence. This can mean investing in equipment, specifically designed to eliminate germs and viruses, training staff on how to use this equipment and having signs in shops that demonstrate that the space has been deeply cleaned.

Evolve Raybotix Robots for Retailers
At Evolve Raybotix, we have been working a with a number of retailers across South West Wales to help get them ready to open to customers and keep their staff safe.
The reasons these retailers have chosen Evolve Raybotix UV-C robots supported by ozone gas, is because they tick all the boxes when it comes to the cleaning standards expected post-lockdown, as follows:
-
Infection control: our robots, which are now classified as a medical device, destroy microorganisms’ DNA structures, quickly and safely eradicating 99.9% of harmful bacteria and viruses.
-
Visibility & frequency of cleaning: following a disinfection by our robots, we provide signs to indicate that spaces have been disinfected and deeply sanitised. When it comes to frequency, our robots can be programmed to clean as frequently as required with different models offering various levels of coverage
-
Increased sustainability: unlike other disinfection equipment, such as fogging machines or portable Ozone boxes, UV-C disinfection robots sanitise all spaces in an environmentally friendly and chemical-free way leaving no harmful residues.
From a practical perspective, our robots are not reliant on people to operate them. They can be programmed manually or remotely to schedule a disinfection of a shop or dedicated area to allow for a cleaning process to suit your operational needs, either during working or non-work hours.

Sharks Swim & Triathlon
Sharks Swim & Triathlon, a specialist shop based in Gorseinon, can’t wait for the day when they can re-open and welcome customers back. In addition to selling clothing and accessories for swimmers, cyclists and triathletes of all standards, sisters and co-owners Louise Snelgrove and Leah Morgan, also offer a wet suit fitting service as well as run swim classes for both children and adults in Swansea.
Due to the nature of the products they sell, customers frequently touch and try on items from the shop. Under current rules, all items which have been handled then have to be disinfected and set aside for up to 48 hours. On the other hand, with an Evolve Raybotix robot, they can sanitise and disinfect their shop including all frequently touch points, by pre-programming the machine once the shop has closed. Also, as the robot can sanitise their space in 10 minutes, if they have had a busy influx of customers in the morning, they can shut the shop for just 10 minutes ready for the next customers. This gives Louise and Leah the peace of mind they need to reassure their customers that their shop is safe.
Listen to what Louise said when we recently carried out a demonstration of our EOS robot at Sharks Swim Shop:

Our customers will know that they're receiving something that's absolutely safe, clean and sanitized.

Goose Island Warehouse
And it’s not just shop owners who can benefit from this technology. Retail warehouses and storage areas, like the one owned by ladies clothing retailer and wholesaler, Goose Island, can also benefit from disinfection robots.
Staff at the Goose Island warehouse handle many packages which come in from suppliers, mainly from Italy, and which are then shipped to their online and wholesale customers across the UK. They have to carry out quality control by checking garments and moving them from rail to rail, packing them up and loading up vans to take the orders to the delivery depot.
As a result of these activities, there are a lot of surfaces which are touched during a normal day by staff, so when we took our NEO and EOS robots to the warehouse for a demonstration, everyone was very impressed by the efficiency of the robots, particularly as they could be pre-programmed to disinfect the surfaces at the end of the working day.
Owner of Goose Island Karen Hutchings said that by investing in an Evolve Raybotix robot, they don’t have to worry about cleaning and sanitising all the time. The process keeps staff safe and it’s also a safe environment then for customers. For the stock that’s being despatched, their customers at the other end will know that they are receiving something that is absolutely safe, clean and sanitised. The staff also have a duty to take great care of garments and delicate materials so using an alternative ‘fogging’ style system would not be appropriate in this environment.
Goose Island Marketing Executive, Georgia Rose explained that knowing all she has to do when she finishes work is to switch it the robot, activate it and everything will be sanitised, making her feel more confident coming into the workplace.
